Why is it important to service your rainwater harvesting system?

It is essential to get your rainwater harvesting system serviced annually for a number of reasons. Rainwater harvesting is an increasingly popular method of practising sustainability, whilst also saving money on water bills and making use of natural resources. Rainwater harvesting systems can be used for a wide range of applications in and around the home, such as garden irrigation, flushing toilets, pressure washing and laundry.

So, why is regular servicing important?

Ensures the tank is working properly

The first reason why you should service your rainwater harvesting system is that this will ensure it is fit for purpose and safe to use. This will give peace of mind that the tank is performing as it should be, and allow for you to maximise its functionality. We recommend getting your rainwater harvesting tank serviced at least once a year, to ensure that it is properly maintained.

Maximises rainwater harvesting potential

Regularly servicing your rainwater harvesting system will allow it to perform at its maximum capacity, and ensure that you are getting the most of your product. Over time, debris and leaves can accumulate in the guttering and potentially block the pathway of rainwater into the tank. Our service engineers can identify any faults or blockages and look to clear them, to allow your tank to function at its full potential.

Extends the lifespan of the tank

By looking after your rainwater harvesting system, the lifespan will be maximised, allowing you to experience excellent value for money. It also means that the manufacturer's warranty will be upheld, protecting your product for as long as possible. Our service engineers provide intricate reports of the work they have carried out, which is passed on to our customers. This is useful to keep and file away for future reference, and to keep a log of relevant maintenance and repairs.

Cost effective in the long run

By identifying potential faults, and successfully maintaining your rainwater harvesting system, the likelihood of components failing or problems with the system arising is reduced. This is because regular assessment allows for any issues to be identified early on, and preventative measures can be taken to stop the system malfunctioning. This could include changing a filter before it becomes blocked, for example.

At Cotterill Environmental, we offer service agreements for both domestic and commercial rainwater harvesting systems. We send out reminders when your service is due, giving you peace of mind.

For domestic rainwater harvesting systems, we recommend a service once every 6 months to a year. For commercial systems, we recommend at least every six months. However, this can differ depending on the size of the tank, and the type of system used. If you’re unsure how often you need your system serviced, give our team a call on 0121 461 4861, as they can provide guidance and advice.
