Oil separator service

Oil separators are designed to separate fats, oils and grease (FOGs) from wastewater to prevent blockages and contamination. They are installed underground, often near catering establishments or food processing facilities.

Without the use of an oil separator, FOGs can build up in the system, and cause significant damage.

Over time, they create something called a ‘fatberg’, which can block the system entirely, causing wastewater to back up and prevent commercial kitchens from functioning properly.

Our maintenance service includes:

  • Removal, checking and cleaning of pumps

  • Checking the pipework is in good condition

  • Testing the pumps

  • Checking control panel

  • On-site service and repair

  • Refurbishment of your current equipment

Useful information on oil separators

Here are some frequently asked questions about why the maintenance of oil separators:

What is an oil separator?

An oil separator tank, also known as a grease trap, is a device used to remove oil, grease, and fats from wastewater before it is discharged into the sewer system. These tanks are commonly found in catering industries where oily water is generated as a result of cooking processes.

An oil separator tank works on the basis of a difference in density between oil and water. When wastewater enters the tank, it undergoes a separation process where the oil and grease float to the surface due to their lower density, while heavier solids settle at the bottom. The separated oil and grease are then skimmed off the surface, and the clarified water is discharged.

Regular maintenance and proper disposal of collected oil and grease are essential to ensure the efficient operation of the separator and compliance with environmental regulations.

Why is it important to service your oil separator?

There are many practical and environmental benefits to installing an oil separator, including:

  • Avoids kitchen breakdowns - this allows commercial facilities to operate efficiently, and prevent downtime which may result in a loss of business

  • Regular maintenance will extend the lifespan of the tank, meaning you get a better return on your investment.

  • Peace of mind - regular servicing will give you reassurance that everything is working as it should be, which will reduce the risk of costly breakdowns and repairs.

  • By having your oil separator serviced regularly, it ensures that the manufacturer’s warranty is upheld

How often should you service your oil separator?

We recommend having your oil separator serviced at least every 3 - 6 to ensure it is functioning properly. This allows for any maintenance or repairs to take place, and gives peace of mind that the tank is performing as it should be for optimal use.
