Top tips for selecting a good environmental service engineer

Proper maintenance of your sewage system is a necessity. When it comes to selecting an environmental service engineer, it’s important you pick the right company for the job. Here are some useful tips on what to look for:

Health and Safety

Health and Safety must be their number one priority. The best maintenance is done before something goes wrong in order to lessen the safety hazards that arise when the system malfunctions or breaks down. If repairs must be performed near live equipment they should have the correct protective wear and tools in their van at all times. Your engineer should perform a dynamic risk assessment before carrying out the job, which includes identifying any hazards, assessing risk and taking action to eliminate or reduce those risks. Warnings must be placed in any hazard zones and barriers set to prevent unauthorised access. This is something we take extremely seriously and our engineers are trained in all aspects of health and safety.

Qualifications and Accreditations

If working on a commercial site, does the engineer have a CSCS labourer card which is proof that the applicant has the appropriate training and qualifications to perform the job? By ensuring the workforce are appropriately trained, the card plays a part in improving standards and safety on construction sites. They must also have a confined space qualification which is designed for workers to enter, supervise or manage in a confined space. All our engineers hold these certifications. As a company, we are also ISO 14001 accredited. This demonstrates our commitment to controlling the impact of our activities on the environment. The standard provides a best practice approach to improving our environmental performance and ensuring we remain legally compliant.

First Fix Response

If an engineer is called out to repair your system will they hold the stock to potentially fix your system there and then or will you have to wait for them to order it? This is another question you could ask them. For example, we hold a range of parts and fittings for common faults so that in most cases we can fix it on site rather than having to return another day, saving you the headache of a poorly working system.

Reviews and Recommendations

Verified reviews allow you to get a sense of how companies treat their customers and whether they can be trusted to do a good job. They make it much easier to figure out which businesses to avoid, saving time and hard earned money. It’s important to check out the companies' reviews to ensure you're making the right decision.
